A Talroo Story

The Proposal Must Come From You — and So Must the Job Application

Bob didn't propose. His algorithm did.

Somewhere out there, an algorithm decided Bob was ready to get married, found someone who matched his profile, and nudged the whole thing forward. Nobody had to ask how Bob felt about it, because the system wasn't optimizing for feelings. It was optimizing for a match.

Hiring is quietly running the same experiment.

Swap the ring for a résumé, and the mechanics are identical.

But an application is more than a résumé. It’s a signal of authentic intent.

When applying becomes automatic, that authenticity disappears.

An application no longer means:

“I want this job.”

It means:

“An algorithm thought I might.”

That's the temptation Talroo is resisting.

We don't measure success by application volume alone. We ask whether the people applying genuinely intend to pursue the opportunity.

SiteOne Landscape Supply sees the difference. As the Recruiting Systems Manager put it: "Talroo applicants seem much more likely to answer the phone and come in for interviews, which is obviously a huge step in this process."

A higher response rate is only the first difference an employer may notice.

The ultimate difference shows up in hiring rates, employee engagement, and retention.

Bob's algorithm decided he was ready.

Hiring platforms are beginning to let algorithms decide who should apply.

In both cases, the first thing to disappear isn't efficiency.

It's human agency.

Relationships deepen with intention and cheapen when commitment is outsourced.

The proposal must come from you.

So must the job application.
