The Path You’ve Spent Years Clearing

Before you change jobs, calculate what you’ll have to rebuild.

When someone early in their career asks for advice, my answer is simple:

Build with time.

Imagine walking through deep snow.

The first time across, every step has to break new ground.

Walk it enough times, and the path begins doing some of the work for you.

But a career is more than simply walking the same path again.

A salesperson who once needed ten calls to get a customer's attention may eventually close a deal in one.

The call didn't get easier because they repeated it.

Years of judgment, relationships, credibility, and reputation changed what that call was worth.

That's leverage built over time.

Skills and judgment travel with you.

Customer relationships, institutional knowledge, internal credibility, and accumulated trust usually don’t.

Changing companies doesn’t erase what you've learned. But it can mean clearing parts of the path again.

That doesn’t mean never leave.

Staying on the same path only matters if it’s still taking you somewhere.

Talroo was built the same way.

Not one brilliant call, but years of decisions in the same direction.

Sometimes that meant turning down easy revenue that would have eroded customer trust.

Over time, those choices compounded into a stronger product, better judgment, and deeper relationships.

You carry the lessons with you.

But never underestimate the value of a path you’ve spent years clearing.

Build with time.
